Police said that they are looking for the two men who accosted Salvation Army Maj. Philip Wise, 40, outside the community center about 4 PM Thursday. So far, no arrests have been made.
Wise had gone to the community center with his children to pick up his wife, Cindy, who is also a Salvation Army major. They were to drive to his mother's home in West Virginia. As he neared the side door, two men approached him, carrying handguns.
One of the men demanded money and shot Wise. Cindy Wise, inside the center, called 911. The Wises had just adopted their children last year. They are aged 4, 6 and 8, and are siblings who came from an abusive family.
Wise was originally from Weirton, West Virgina, and his wife, Cindy, was from Charleston, West Virginia. They met 16 years ago at a Salvation Army school in Atlanta. Both had worked for the Salvation Army ever since.

i wish news items like this left me with some sort of remorse, but it is so common these days, it is hard to be shocked by a story like this. I hope the children can continue to heal not only from their past life, but now this senseless violence.

The article says the perpetrators demanded money, I can't help but think if they were to go this low that they might have a drug habit or something of the like to support. This is such a sad story and I hope they catch the killers. By the way, the abbreviation for Arkansas is AR, not AK.

This is the saddest thing I've read in a couple of days. I can't believe the shock these children must be going through. A man like this whose aspirations were to help others, struck done so heartlessly.

Well the Poor kids to have witness the murder of their father with their mother only a few feet away unable to help. Christmas may be tainted for them as long as they live. I hope these people pay for this 10 times over.Thanks

What's sad is that no one will touch gun control for fear of getting metaphorically shot.
