Grassley Tells Constituent if He Wants Affordable Insurance, "Go Work for the Government"
It's ironic isn't it? Politicians like Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) rail against public health insurance as an option, yet they seem just happy as clams with their own publicly run health insurance.
During a townhall in Waukon, IA Tuesday, Grassley was asked by a constituent of his:
“Why is your insurance so much cheaper than my insurance and better than my insurance? I think I should have the same insurance that you have.”When Grassley pretended to not know the details of his own health care plan, another person on the same plan as he did gave him the details. The elderly man followed up, “Okay, how come I can’t have the same thing you have?”
Grassley said: “You can. Just go work for the federal government.” A pretty ridiculous statement. He was basically telling the guy to "suck it."
I personally would love to see Grassley go his own in the private individual health insurance market. Any pre-existing conditions are cut out. Of course, one prime example is Dick Cheney. Sure he's rich, and so he can afford to pay what insurance companies would want for someone with his cardiac problems, but without riches, there's no way he could afford health care with his history.

As a former insurance salesman, MONY, I think "everyone" should have to pay their own premiums for life, and health insurance.
George Will's column said it best, last week. "In 1960 Americans were spending 5 percent of GDP on personal insurance. Today, we're spending 18 percent." I think MR. Grassley should be paid "all his income" he should then have to write a check, or pay, by some other method, for his own personal insurance plan.In that way he'd be constantly aware of the cost. The same should apply to each of us.

It is unfortunate. The public's perception of the federal employee health insurance program, which includes, federal workers and elected officials. I for one, a retired federal employee, feel like the press is not representing things fairly. I had the option as an employee to choose an insurance plan, usually limited to only a few plan. Also, a premium was deducted from my salary, which is also, deducted from my retirement. These are group insurance plans. Everyone pays the same premium for the plan they choose. Meaning the rich politicians pay the same as any federal employee. Also, the healthy employee pays the same as the sick employee. In general terms. It is unfortunate that there aren't more options for people who do not work for the federal government. This is one of my employee benefits. The federal government shouldn't be providing the same program for all citizens. Come ON.
