Mixed-Race Couple Defies Odds Twice: Second Set of Black / White Twins

A mixed-race British couple has defied the odds not once, but twice, by having fraternal twins, one white, one black.

The couple's older children were born in 2001, Hayleigh, with darker skin, and Lauren, fair-skinned like her blue-eyed, red-haired mother Alison Spooner. The newborns are Miya, who has dark skin like father Dean Durrant, and twin sister Leah, who resembles her mother.

"I was blown away as the rest of them, you know. There's no easy way to explain it all. I feel like I'm still in shock myself, even thought the first ones were seven years ago. It's amazing but we love them just the same," said father, Dean Durrant.

"Even non-identical twins aren't that common," Dr. Sarah Jarvis of Britain's Royal College of General Practitioners told Sky. "Non-identical twins from mixed parents, of different races, less common still. To have two eggs fertilized and come out different colors, less common still. So, to have it happen twice must be one in millions."
