Ringo Starr to Fans: No More Mail, Please!
If your next letter to Ringo Starr is postmarked Oct. 20th or later, he's going to trash it. Yep, it's into the wastebasket. I'm not kidding.
In a video on his site, he said:
“This is a serious message to everybody watching my update right now. Peace and love. Peace and love.Someone needs to remind Ringo that without the fans, he's nothing. If it wasn't for the crazy way the world treats athletes, celebrities, and the like, instead of them making millions, the people who really make a difference, like teachers, would be making a decent wage.
I want to tell you please, after the 20th of October please do not send fan mail to any address that you have. Nothing will be signed after the 20th of October. If that is the date on the envelope, it’s gonna be tossed.
I’m warning you with peace and love I have too much to do. So no more fan mail. Thank you, thank you. And no objects to be signed. Nothing. Anyway, peace and love, peace and love."
And let's face it: he's not the greatest of the Fab Four, now is he?
They're currently having a photo contest at the site, so I'm guessing that at least for now, those won't bounce (although that's a special email address). Perhaps someday.

Imagine, yourself, all the time busy, all the time fans who keep asking attention, wouldn't you feel like oef, please, leave me in peace and go do some wise thing with your life instead of asking signed parapharnalia? Or.. Don't you mind to be harrassed?
Yeah, at first I though, gee, that seems rather harsh, and I think that's partially the brusque way the message was delivered, copious 'peace and love's notwithstanding.
But I really can imagine that, after forty-plus years, the guy has got to be overwhelmed and exhausted by it all, and perhaps even feeling like, when it comes to his fans, everyone wants a piece of him, rather than just appreciating his work.
The bottom line is, regardless of how the request comes across to you or I or anyone else, he's certainly entitled, particularly at his age.
what a petty jerk! these people who love him and have a need to share with him are being denied that chance - after he foisted himself upon THEM to begin with.
sure i understand that he's busy, so i thought maybe he could hire someone to do things for him, as he can certainly afford it.
what a joy it would be to receive even just one letter from a fan.
the thing that strikes me most is how unappreciative he is for his privileged postion. michael jackson deserves every penny from ringo's royalties! at least michael doesn't deny his fans their letters.
