McCain "Put the Country at Risk" with Palin Pick: Former Bush Re-Election Chief Strategist

It is no secret that many, including conservatives, feel that Sarah Palin is uniquely unqualified to be Vice-President, whether it be on economic issues, social issues, or global issues. And now the former chief strategist for Bush's re-election campaign has come out still stronger, saying McCain "put the country at risk" with his pick of Palin.

At Time Warner's two-day 2008 election summit in Manhattan, Matthew Dowd, a prominent political consultant and aforementioned chief strategist for Bush's re-election campaign said the following:
"They didn't let John McCain pick the person he wanted to pick as VP. When Sarah Palin got picked instead of Joe Lieberman, which I fundamentally believed would have given John McCain the best opportunity in this race... as soon as he picked Palin, that whole ready versus not ready argument was not credible."
Obviously, since if anyone's not ready, and needs to be, given McCain's age and health history, it's Palin. He added:
"He knows, in his gut, that he put somebody unqualified on the ballot. He knows that in his gut, and when this race is over that is something he will have to live with... He put somebody unqualified on that ballot and he put the country at risk, he knows that."
When later poked about the temporary energizing of the GOP base, Dowd replied with a statement which is the perfect answer to the following riddle: How is Sarah Palin like Halloween?
"To me it is like Halloween. You get energized by eating all that candy at night but then you feel sick the next day."
