Sarah Palin, meet Dana Perino. Two women, one in power, the other potentially, who don't know much about U.S history.Earlier I wrote about Dana Perino and her lack of any knowledge about the "Cuban Missile Crisis," one of the most important moments in world history, not just U.S. history.
In 2006, the Eagle Forum Alaska sent a questionnaire to all the state’s gubernatorial candidates, including Sarah Palin. One of her responses was about the Pledge of Allegiance:
11. Are you offended by the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?As she should know, however, the words "Under God" were not added to the Pledge of Allegiance until 1954.
SP: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance.
While knowing the exact year might be nitpicky, and definitely less of a faux pas than not knowing about the "Cuban Missile Crisis." Palin should know that the phrase was not in the original Pledge of Allegiance.
Why? As someone who wants to fight for that phrase, knowing that lawsuits have been filed against it where this tidbit of info is always emphasized, she ought to know.
