I wrote about this earlier in April. The Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco wants to rename the Oceanside Wastewater Treatment Facility to be the George W. Bush Sewage Plant.And they've achieved the first step. As their site now says:
On July 7th, we submitted 11,999 signatures to the San Francisco Department of Elections. Of these, 11,025 we from San Francisco addresses. The Department of Elections will let us know within 30 days if at least 7,168 of these signatures are valid. If so, you’ll be able to vote on this measure on the November 4th ballot. Thanks again to all of our supporters and volunteers!The White House, quite naturally, isn't too happy. When asked about it in the June 25th White House Press Briefing, Dana Perino said:
Q The New York Times reported this morning from San Francisco that the Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco is planning to ask voters to change the name of the prize-winning water treatment on the shoreline to, "The George W. Bush Sewage Plant." And my question: What is the White House reaction to this New York Times news report?Ah, yes, and we know how dignified the GWB Sewage Plant will be.
MS. PERINO: I just don't think it dignifies a response.
